The greatest lesson I ever learned was from a chess game I played in a tournament in junior high. I must have played the worse game of my life. During the game I lost almost every single major piece. Just as my opponent was going to move in for the kill, I noticed that he had boxed in his king. My opponent was so intent on checkmating me, that he failed to notice this. Two moves later, I checkmated him. The lesson that I learned from that game was my reason and plans had limitations. I make mistakes–sometimes very painful and embarrassing mistakes. I further learned not to get caught up in guilt or self-incrimination, persevere, carry on, and keep your head up high. Life above all is to be a celebration of Jesus dying for us and being raised up and all who believe in him shall share in his resurrection on the last day.
