DDS fortunately selected me to be in their Self-Determination roll out. I was the first one in the state to have their plan approved. A whole team of people had to come together and work hard to make that happened. The plan worked as advertised until the pandemic hit. Then my ILS services were switched from in person in my home to virtual over Zoom and my hours were reduced. This left a lot of money in my plan unspent. This became obvious in my monthly expense statements. This presented a problem as well as an opportunity. How could I spend these monies to better meet my needs? I began to contact my team for ideas, researched on line, and talked to members in the community. It took a lot of time and effort, but a new spending plan emerged. That wasn’t the end of it, I had to start a two month process to get the plan approved. It took a lot of personal empowerment and teamwork to make that happen. I was so pleased when everything was accomplished. Meanwhile, I prepared for and led my PCP/IPP meeting. This took two months of planning and preparation, and after the meeting every one complimented on the job I had done. October 1, 2020, year two of my plan begins with a focus on friendship development, and finding a girl friend. I am very excited about what will transpire in year two.
